Visit San Basilio de Palenque

Centuries ago, escaped slaves inhabited the jungles that surround Cartagena. These days, the Afro-Colombian residents of San Basilio de Palenque have preserved many of the customs of their African ancestors including a statue of town founder Benkos Bioho who established Palenque in 1603.
