Travel Tips From a Travel Advisor With 30+ Years of Experience
A beautiful hotel can catch your attention. A thoughtfully planned journey can stay with you for years.
After more than 30 years in travel, I’ve learned that a memorable vacation involves much more than choosing a destination and making reservations. It’s how the experience feels from beginning to end: the pace, the people, the unexpected discoveries, and the comfort of knowing someone has thought through the details.
My work has also taught me something about the women I serve. We may love different destinations, but many of us want the same things: meaningful experiences, good company, a little adventure, and time to enjoy what we’ve worked so hard for.
Here are six lessons I bring to every journey I help plan.
1. The Right Trip Starts With You
Before we talk about hotels, I want to know what you’re hoping to get out of your time away.
Do you want to explore your heritage? Celebrate a milestone? Reconnect with friends? Or spend a few days without being responsible for everyone else’s schedule?
Those answers matter. Two people can visit the same country and need completely different itineraries.
Thoughtful travel planning starts with listening. The destination should fit the experience you want - and the way you enjoy traveling.
2. A Full Itinerary Needs Room to Breathe
It’s tempting to squeeze everything into one trip. When you’ve traveled a long way, you want to make every day count.
But a schedule packed from breakfast to bedtime can leave you needing another vacation when you get home.
I believe in making space for the unplanned moments: lingering over lunch, browsing a neighborhood shop, enjoying the hotel you carefully selected, or accepting a second cup of coffee because the conversation is that good.
A well-designed itinerary gives you something to look forward to and enough breathing room to enjoy it.
3. Value Lives in the Details
An appealing price is only one part of the picture.
Where is the hotel located? What does the rate include? How much time will you spend getting from one place to another? Does that flight connection leave you comfortable or anxious?
A slightly higher price may bring a better location, a more convenient arrival, or an experience you’ll remember long after you’ve forgotten what you paid.
My role as a travel advisor is to help you understand those choices so you can spend with confidence on what matters to you.
4. Culture Is Often the Most Memorable Part
Beautiful scenery draws us in. The people and their stories give a place meaning.
A meal that introduces you to a family tradition. A local guide who adds perspective to a historic neighborhood. A heritage experience that helps you see a familiar destination differently.
These are the encounters that make travel personal.
That’s why cultural travel is such an important part of my approach at Colesville Travel. I want you to come home with stories, a deeper understanding, and memories that belong to you.
5. Good Company Can Change the Entire Experience
For many women, the desire to travel is there. Finding someone who is ready to go can be the challenge.
Friends have different budgets. Calendars don’t line up. The group chat stays enthusiastic, but nobody makes a decision.
A thoughtfully organized group trip can help you move from “someday” to having something wonderful on your calendar.
You have people to share the experience with, support with the planning, and opportunities to enjoy yourself without coordinating every detail. For women who prefer companionship when exploring somewhere new, that can make all the difference.
6. Your Travel Dreams Deserve a Real Plan
There is almost always a reason to wait.
Work is busy. Family needs you. Something around the house needs attention. You tell yourself you’ll start planning when life settles down.
After three decades in this business, one lesson feels especially important: your enjoyment deserves a place on the calendar, too.
You don’t need to book impulsively. Start with a conversation, a realistic budget, and a sense of when you’d like to go. Giving your dream a plan makes it easier to take the next step.
What Experience Means for Your Next Journey
At Colesville Travel, I bring more than 30 years of experience to helping women, couples, and groups explore the world with confidence.
I think about the practical details alongside the exciting ones: how an arrival day will feel, whether the pace makes sense, and where a special experience will add something meaningful to your trip.
Because traveling well should feel personal. You should recognize yourself in the journey we design.
