Black Paris & A Taste of France: Where History Mixes with Wine, Jazz, and Soul

Cynthia Amin • January 31, 2024

Ready to explore Paris beyond the Eiffel Tower and Louvre? Join us on a unique journey that blends iconic Parisian sights with the vibrant history and culture of Black Paris, paired with an exploration into the world renowned  Bordeaux wine region and the former home of Josephine Baker in Sarlat.

This isn't your ordinary trip to France but a journey that unlocks hidden stories, indulges in exquisite flavors, and leaves you full of Parisian charm and Bordeaux bliss.

Paris Reimagined

Upon your arrival in Paris, you will be transferred to your hotel to settle in.  Why not take the afternoon to stroll the Champs-Élysées, bask in the golden glow of the Eiffel Tower or gaze out the window of your hotel for picture-perfect moments. Soak in the city's energy with an evening at a lively jazz club or have dinner at a Parisian café.

During your private bus tour, you will hear stories of famous Black Americans in Paris. Walk in the footsteps of literary giants like Richard Wright and James Baldwin.  Discover the vibrant Montmartre district where Black entertainers once dazzled audiences.

Now it’s time to delve deep into the Louvre's collection with a guided tour of "Black Images" revealing magnificent works depicting Africans and people of African descent throughout history.  Let the artistry transport you to another time and let your imagination soar.

If you have time and you love museums, you should visit the Musee d’Orsay. In the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, there's a secret hidden among all the famous paintings. It's not a hidden room but a collection of pictures called "Black Models: from Géricault to Matisse." These artworks show people who look different than most of the ones you see hanging around museums. They're Black people, and the pictures tell stories about their lives, sometimes happy, sometimes sad.

Bordeaux - Where Wine Reigns Supreme

Now it’s time to travel to Bordeaux and travel through rolling vineyards and charming villages where wine isn't just a drink, it's a way of life. Tour historic cellars, witness the craft of winemaking, and savor exquisite tastings at esteemed wineries.  You will also take a guided walking tour of the city though the charming, cobblestone streets and view the grand architecture which unveils the secrets of this vibrant wine capital.

After visiting Bordeaux, we travel to Sarlat, where a guided tour brings Josephine Baker's Chateau des Milandes to life. Explore her former home, filled with furnishings, mementos, and personal effects. The Chateau of Josephine Baker is now a captivating museum filled with personal effects and mementos. Imagine her laughter echoing through the halls and her spirit dancing in the gardens.

Sarlat – a Medieval Town

In the medieval streets of Sarlat, wander through the impeccably preserved cobblestone streets where Josephine Baker once shopped for fresh strawberries and local crafts.  As you walk through the town, let your imagination wander through centuries of history.

On Saturday you will have a treat when you visit the Saturday market in Sarlat. At the market imagine stepping into a time capsule bursting with an abundance of local French goods, local people, and French chatter. This legendary market isn't just a shopping spree; it's a sensory feast and a cultural immersion experience rolled into one that will not be forgotten.

Let’s Make Unforgettable Memories Together

Whether you're a history buff, a wine enthusiast, or simply seeking a fresh perspective on France, the “Black Paris and a Taste of France Tour” promises to be unforgettable.
